So you want to start a brewery?

As part of this video blog I want to document the journey of starting a business, the things that I have learnt and, more importantly, the mistakes that I have made along the way. Having never brewed beer or started a business before 2013, this is my attempt at documenting all the highs and lows that come with being a small business owner in the UK.

I am also on a mission to demystify the world of beer and give you an insight into how beer is made, what is on offer and ultimately encourage you all to drink better beer!

As 2014 draws to a close I thought it was an appropriate time to reflect on the year that has just passed and share with you the top five things I have learnt in 2014. Everyone will have a different experience but if you are thinking about starting a brewery or business then hopefully these five points will help you avoid some of the potential pitfalls.

To the point – if you can’t be bothered to watch the whole video (it’s only 3 minutes but that might be too long for some) then here is a summary of the top five things I have learnt throughout 2014:

  1. People buy with their eyes
  2. Route to market
  3. Product consistency
  4. Trademarks and intellectual property
  5. Every bastard says NO!

And here is the video itself:

Hope that helps!

P.s I realise I am slightly late in posting this blog but it I had some much needed time off over Christmas and New Year so I gathered I’m allowed to be slightly late on this occasion!
